Shopping for gifts around the holidays can be a major headache and stressful activity. You have to deal with larger crowds, grumpy employees and the pain of having to travel store to store to find the appropriate gift for all the different people you plan to give presents to. Here are some simple guidelines and tips to help make your holiday shopping a much smoother process.

First, try to create a list of everyone you need to purchase gifts for along with one to three gift ideas for each individual. It would be best to do this as far in advance as possible in order to give you more time to find the right gift and potentially save you some money since you can now look for specific sales for any items you are looking to purchase. Once you have your list completed, the first place you want to begin shopping is either online or via mail order catalog. Shopping online and through the mail is an easy, convenient and flexible way to buy Christmas gifts since you can do your shopping at your own leisure while maintaining your daily schedule. When shopping online don't forget to check eBay if you know exactly what it is you're looking for, as there is a good chance you'll be able to save a pretty penny on whatever it is you want to buy. Lastly be sure to leave yourself adequate time to deal with any possible shipping delays.

If you choose not to actually make any gift purchases online, it would be wise to at least browse for gift ideas and to do some comparison shopping online so you will have a better idea of what prices to expect for when you do go out to do your Christmas shopping. When it is time to start shopping at retail stores, again, you want to try and do this as far in advance as possible before the holidays. It is also best to be an early bird and get to the stores early in the morning before the masses arrive so you will not have to deal with the large crowds. You should also try to plan your driving and walking route to all the stores in the area you expect to do your Christmas gift shopping in.

To try and help save a bit of money during the holidays keep up to date with all the shopping circulars for all the major retailers in your area on a regular basis. Unbelievably you can easily find the local flyer for most large chain stores online within their own website. This is a major plus since you will not have to worry about actually picking one up yourself. It is also a good idea to look for some online coupons for any gifts you are sure to buy. You can easily find these coupons and information on great sales and hot deals by visiting some of the Internet sites that are specifically dedicated to helping consumers get great prices on just about any product. You can locate these online websites by doing a simple search on Google or Yahoo for the words hot deals, coupons and fat wallet.

As with most things during the Christmas season, all it takes is a bit of organization and pre planning to help make the holidays a much happier and less stressful time of year.
